Hi Everyone, this is mommy to Kayden and Sean and wife to the artist and creator of Doddle Dad. This post will be in honor of him. This week I have 3 days off before the busy school year starts. I am just enjoying and absorbing every little moment with my children and husband.

Today was a relaxing chilled day at the beach picnicking, wading, hide n seeking and of course photo taking. My husband is rarely in photos since he loves to be behind the camera, in control instead of in front of the camera; however he obliged and allowed me to snap some photos of him so that I can show the world the handsomeness of doddle dad.

Yet another post about children’s smiles.

So these percentages in the comic are taken from feeling rather than fact. Any parent can tell you that trying to take a nice picture of your children can be a bit of a tricky problem. But I was just thinking back on the days when cameras relied on film instead of the digital ones we have now.

Today was quite a busy day with lots of comings and goings…and lots of arts and crafts with the kids.

In the morning I worked on a little sheep project with Sean. First we cut out the little sheep. I would hold Sean’s hands and he would open and close the scissors.

Then we put glue where his wool would be and ripped up cotton together and placed it all around.

We used some old laundry clips for the legs and it was finished! Sean was very pleased with himself and enjoyed looking at it long enough for me to snap a picture.

Skipping Stones

This is kind of a “whatever” comic. But I was out one day with my kids and there was a pool of water so I started skipping stones. I remember that when I was a kid, my dad showed me how to do it and I was thrilled. So I showed my son…and he really didn’t think it was super at all. Maybe when he is a little older to appreciate the fine art of stone skipping I will show him again. ha

I love Mommy

Kayden really loves his Mommy. We found a good way for him to express his love for her in a special way. We created a little mailbox (some of you may already know of this from my other post). Mommy would write a little letter to Kayden before she left for work and Kayden could write a letter for her to read when she comes home.

It helps Kayden express things that he wants to tell Mommy and also helps him get creative as we don’t want all the letters to be the same. It is also a good tool to teach him writing and reading.

This is Mommy and Kaydens most recent letters to each other.

Mommy was a bit surprised, as was I , when Kayden explained the picture. My wife is not pregnant and definitely not with triplets. hahaha

We really do miss Mommy when she goes to work and we don’t see her, but this Friday she has off, so we will be able to spend Fri, Sat and Sun with her. Yay!

Stay a Baby Forever!

This really happened.

It was with our first son.

My wife who had hardly had any emotional roller coasters during her first  pregnancy really went for a ride after the baby was born.

Smile Sean

Has any other parent…or person ever notice how fuggly kids fake smiles are. You know sometimes you tell your children to smile for a picture and so they turn to give you a face that in their heads (I’m sure) is everything they think you want. But the reality is they look constipated or something.

It feels like that for me sometimes. In the above post I used Sean, but Kayden has his ugly smile moments (as I’m sure we all do).

Sean in particular though has a really hard time smiling. He doesn’t smile very often and it looks like he is always thinking deep thoughts or he’s bored. But sometimes if you ask him to smile he will try his best to please you. One time he really tried to give it his all and smile real big, not because he was happy, but because we were begging him too. So sweet! Trying to please his Mommy and Daddy. But the smile that came out was so weird looking. It looked like he was angry, constipated and yet his eyes were smiling. My wife and I couldn’t help ourselves and started laughing hysterically. Then thinking he did a good job he actually did smile a genuine smile. Sean’s smiles are to die for. So cute!

I guess as you grow older you look at yourself in the mirror more and practice your smile till it’s not so weird, but with kids you get to see the faces you would probably make if you didn’t know how you looked when putting on a smile. haha

Spring time is coming

Today Kayden got a bit of a bloody nose. It’s not as bad as it sounds though. We were playing on the beach and Kayden was climbing some rocks when he jumped down in front of where Sean was throwing rocks. Just as Kayden landed Sean had thrown a rock and it hit him right in the face. Sean is not strong (Maybe for a 1 year old he’s strong. I don’t know) so it didn’t hurt Kayden too much, but it did give him a nasty bloody nose. Because of the bloody nose it looked horrible. So I rushed him to the beach to wash some of the blood off his face. Sean came toddling behind us and as I was focused on washing Kaydens face I hadn’t noticed Sean walk too close to the waves. A wave rolled in and Sean lost his balance and fell in the water. Aw man! He wasn’t injured at all, just a bit wet and shocked by the cold. Kayden started cracking up at this and that set his mood right again. But that was the end of our morning outing.

Sticks and Stones!

It’s funny how boys and grown up men alike will always think of a sword when holding a long stick in their hands.

Kayden and I used to always play pretend fighting on the beach with our twigs and branches (not so much anymore) and that is what inspired this comic. I thought it was funny that one time in the heat of the play sword fighting Kayden got this really aggressive look on his face and picked up a stone to throw at me.

I of course stopped the game immediately and told him we can’t throw rocks and that it is dangerous and can hurt other people. But then I realized…so can sticks. Ha. So I haven’t been encouraging sword fighting with Kayden anymore. If he wants we will play a little but I make sure it doesn’t get too intense for him. I can just imagine how he must feel being so small and trying to sword fight with an adult. He must of felt his only option was to keep his distance and hurl something at his larger opponent. ha!
